FAQ

Why should I hire you instead of a regular proofreader or translator?

The large majority of proofreaders and translators have excellent knowledge of English, but are unfamiliar with academic publishing and academic research. Hence, they are generally  very good at correcting  simple  mistakes,  but  their  expertise  does  not  go  far  beyond  that.  We  at GetPublished.be  are  experienced  academics  with  a  broad  background.  Hence,  we  cannot only  help  you  correct  simple  mistakes,  but  we  can  also  help  you  improve  your  overall academic style and rhetoric. We understand what you are talking about, and because of this, we  can  help  you  improve  your  text  at  a  much  deeper  level  and  assist  you  in  using  the appropriate rhetorical devices to present your argument in the clearest way possible.

What do you do that my PhD supervisor does not?

Part of what we do are indeed tasks that are often done by PhD supervisors: supervisors are expected to comment both on the content of your research, as well as on the form (an academic paper for example) in which you present that research. This, however, is very hard. Content and form are two very different things, and it is almost impossible to offer qualitative feedback on content and form at the same time, by the very same person. This is where we come in. We understand what you write about, but we do not meddle with the content of your research. We  only use our knowledge to help you improve your style and the clarity of your argument. As a result, your PhD supervisor is able to focus much more on the content of your research rather than the form.

How do I know you will do a good job?

At getpublished.be, we only want customers that are 100% satisfied. Hence, for every text over 1000 words that you send to us, we offer a free sample. If you don’t like the sample, you don’t pay anything. It’s as simple as that.

What academic disciplines do you cover?

Our  own  background  and  expertise  is  in  the  humanities  and  social  sciences  (history, philosophy,  literature,  art  history/art  sciences).  Nevertheless,  our  insights  into  the  style, rhetoric  and  argumentation  structures  of  academic  writing  are  valuable  to  any  academic making use of extended written prose. Researchers in archeology or psychology might also benefit  strongly  from  our  services.  Purely  quantitative  and/or  experimental  scientific research, on the other hand, lie outside of our scope.
